Colombian landrace strains are indigenous to the mountainous regions of Colombia, particularly the Santa Marta Mountains and historic Tierradentro. Famous Colombian landraces include Colombian Gold and Punto Rojo, Spanish for “Red Dot.” Colombian landraces express sativa traits primarily, with long flowering periods and thin, long fan leaves. Colombian landraces grow best outside, where they reach heights of up to 12 feet with heavy yields if allowed to grow to mid-November. Indoor gardens bloom within 75-90 days and require extra height management techniques. Online reports cite Colombian landraces’ difficulty in capturing the original flavors and terpenoids when grown in an environment greatly different from that of the Colombian mountains.
